In 2024, we initiated a partnership with the Bronx Charter School for the Arts a public school that strives to serve as a model that encourages creativity and innovation in the classroom. and inspires students to develop the intellectual and personal fortitude to realize their dreams. During the summer of 2024, we held a successful in-person, two-week training program with the school’s teachers followed by working with a group of 25+ girls. Our girls were privileged to meet and learn from inspiring role models from Google. The school is now poised to create a sustainable STEM-robotics program for its girls.

Bronx Charter School for the Arts is excited to partner with The Community Bots program to bring STEM robotics to our elementary and middle schools in New York City’s South Bronx neighborhood. Both The Community Bots and Bronx Arts strive to provide transformative opportunities for students to develop a passion for learning and changing the world, whether through engineering, robotics, or the arts, and this partnership allows us to bring the arts and STEM together! The Community Bots’ mission to provide training and equipment to young women and their teachers in underserved communities around the world has allowed us to launch a highly engaging program of STEM-robotics learning for our girls in fourth through eighth grades. With the training, materials, and enthusiastic support from The Community Bots and their cofounder, Jack Cooley, we had our first cohort of girls participate in the Fun with Robotics curriculum during our summer 2024 program, and now we have four female staff members trained to continue the program throughout the school year. The training and materials provided allowed us to accelerate the learning of educators and girls alike, and the opportunity for every learner to move at their own pace fostered a supportive environment for our cohort of girls. The Community Bots also brought women in the STEM fields to meet our girls and their families, including an extended visit from a board member and a visit from a panel of women engineers from Google. These visits allowed our girls to hear about the opportunities and challenges for women in the STEM fields, to ask questions, and to share their developing interest in robotics. Our girls are looking forward to continuing to develop their programming skills, and we look forward to sharing The Community Bots program with even more of our girls and continuing to develop our partnership with The Community Bots in the future.”
